Rhetorical Knowledge
Rhetorical Knowledge is having the ability as a writer to consider the aspects of audience, pupose, and context and use that knowledge to present your message in a clear and concise fation.
The Quest for refuge project is an extremely relevant topic because refugees is a topic on many government officials of countries all around the world. In America refugees have been scrutinized and treated as a problem instead of people. In class we have studied about the lives of refugees across the world and attempt to comprehend their struggle. We are attempting to find out what refuge means and what can be done to help these people. I have been fortunate enough to gain an incredible amount of insight through interviewing the Press Secretary of Providence Victor Morente. He is a great man that has a life story like no other and the way he tells it makes you feel as though you are living it. In our interview we used close up camera shots to see the emotion in Victors face when discussing his life in Gutemala and his Journey to the U.S.
Our purpose for this multimodal video was to show that the general stereotypical perception of undocumented immigrants is wrong and Victor is a great example of how if given an opportunity undocumented immigrants can succeed and prosper in the U.S. We had to consider whether people understood where he came from and his journey to the U.S. We had to consider that people would not be able to relate to his refugee process because he faced so many barriers that kept him from being a documented U.S citizen. Having an audience that understand many aspects of writing allowed us to use all the techniques we knew to convey a message that was clear and powerful.
We had to consider that we are sending a message which a lot of people will disagree with because they have always had their minds made up about what all refugees and undocumented citizens do. Although we prove this theory wrong because Victor is a great example of a undocumented citizen coming to the U.S and getting educated and given a governmental job opportunity and he excelling through the ranks to have a position of press secretary.
