Subject Matter
After we received all of our footage Shami and I watched it together and found a common theme throughout the video. We wanted this video to present Victor's story and then show the audience that the negative perceptions of refugees are false. The real reason that refugees are unable to make a positive impact on their societies is because the process of becoming a citizen is extremely difficult and Victor described his frustration with this process. Then if you are lucky enough to become a citizen only after that point are you given government assistance for your educational career. We felt Victors main points where his life in Guatemala, his journey to the U.S, and adapting to life in the U.S while getting educated and eventually getting a great governmental position. Shami and I believed that these three points were most supportive in capturing our message. I had to be mindful while filming the interview when Victor was speaking about a very emotional subject, so I could zoom in and clearly see the facial expressions on his face The questions we asked him had to be very open ended so he could give a detailed response.
We had to understand that the questions we would be asking Victor may bring back very emotional feelings for him. In class we discussed what to do if someone starts to cry that did not happen with Victor.
